Read your first Economico report

Economico gives your agent access to your business’s books through MCP, REST and the CLI. This guide connects the CLI and reads a report without changing the books. You need Node.js 24 or newer and access to the business you want to inspect.

Install and sign in

npm install -g @economico/cli
economico login --server https://economi.co --local
economico businesses list

Login opens the browser. Sign in with your email code or Google. Create a company if you need one, review its agreement and approve the connection. The CLI stores credentials locally; keep them out of source control. In a remote terminal, use economico login --no-browser to print the authorization URL; the browser must be able to reach the CLI’s loopback callback.

Select a business and discover its operations

Use a slug returned by businesses list in place of your-business:

economico --business your-business tools
economico --business your-business catalog list
economico --business your-business catalog describe --name parties.create

Every data call names its business. Commands and schemas are filtered by the connection’s effective permissions. Discover the schema before attempting a write.

Read a balance sheet

economico --business your-business reports run \
  --kind balance_sheet --currency USD --human

Use your business’s reporting currency. The result shows recorded balances; an empty ledger cannot establish your actual cash, expenses or runway. Inspect the source documents and entries in the workspace before relying on a number.

Connect an MCP host instead

Add https://economi.co/mcp as a remote HTTP MCP server in your host, then complete its OAuth authorization. Start with businesses, select an authorized slug, and use catalog and reports. See the Agent Center for host-specific setup and the setup skill for your first recorded transaction.
