Economico for Claude Code

Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent for the terminal, IDE, desktop and web. Add Economico's MCP server, sign in once, and the agent you ship code with keeps real double-entry books for your startup.

What Claude Code is

Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic coding tool. It runs in your terminal, in VS Code and JetBrains, and in the Claude desktop and web apps. It is an MCP host, so it connects to tool servers like Economico over HTTP with OAuth and calls their tools inside a session. It also runs shell commands, so the CLI works too.

Connect Economico over MCP (recommended)

Add the Economico MCP server. Claude Code runs the sign-in itself: on first use, run /mcp and it opens the browser. Sign in with your email or Google, create your company or pick an existing one, and approve what Claude Code may do.

Ask in plain language. Claude Code finds the right commands, posts balanced entries and reads the result back. Copy one to try:

Record what a customer owes

Record the $4,000 March consulting amount due from Acme under our agreement. Show the activity statement and what Acme owes.

Record a bill against a credit

Record the $1,200 AWS bill I provide against our Activate credit. Show the posted entry and how much credit is left.

Month summary

Summarize this month's recorded invoices, payments received, open balances and recognized revenue. Show the source entries.

Burn and runway

Using our recorded cash and spending history, estimate burn and runway. State the assumptions and show the source reports.

Does Claude Code use MCP or the CLI for Economico?

Either. MCP is the most direct path; the @economico/cli package works too. Both reach the same commands, reports and books.

Do I have to give Claude Code the keys to the kingdom?

No. Economico gets one connection to your books, with the access you approve. It never asks for your bank, email or cloud credentials. Claude Code already reaches your inbox and code; it brings the facts to your books.

Is it safe if the agent retries?

Yes. Ledger writes are idempotent: a retry with the same key never posts twice.
